We’ve all played “Is this still OK?” in front of the fridge.

Red Flags (Toss It)

  • Sharp sour or rancid smell
  • Slimy or sticky surface on meats
  • Unnatural color changes (greenish meats, darkened fish)
  • Visible mold on soft foods

Yellow Flags (Use Judgment)

  • Cheese rinds getting firmer? Trim and carry on.
  • Separated natural peanut butter? Stir it; it’s fine.
  • Crystals on ice cream? Safe, but quality took a snow day.
